Tips for Teachers

Dear teachers,

The time has come and we are now going live. Let's try to keep sharing useful resources with one another. If you use the comments section on the bottom I will happily add your ideas to this page. Thankfully I can say that we have pretty much been following the advice of the experts with regards to preparation. See the table below.

Platforms that I have personally tried and can vouch for (Mr Graham)

Flipgrid is a social learning platform that allows educators to ask a question, then the students respond in a video. Students are then able to respond to one another, creating a “web” of discussion.

Create interactive lessons in minutes.
Save prep time by importing existing lessons (pdfs, jpegs, ppts) and adding Virtual Field Trips, Collaborate boards, Quizzes, Polls, Matching Pairs activities + more.

Easily create interactive video lessons for your students. Add a video from youtube, make it stop in places, students must answer questions to proceed through the video. Students cant fast forward through the video!

Platforms recommended by other teachers at BBIS

Suggested by Mr Hinson: Works like Kahoot to review student understanding.

Suggested by Miss Wardle: Seesaw creates a powerful learning loop between students, teachers, and families. I have heard great things about using seesaw with primary students

Suggested by Miss Elaby: Literacy Shed aims to provide teachers with high quality films and animations that can be used in the primary classroom to enhance the teaching of reading and writing

Suggested by Mr Aleksic: Underpinned by the latest research into comprehension teaching and learning, Oxford Reading Buddy is a unique new digital service that develops deeper comprehension skills and encourages students to read more.

Suggested by Miss Niki O: BrainPop is a fantastic platform that I thoroughly recommend!

With over 1,000 short animated movies for students in grades K-12, together with quizzes and related materials, covering the subjects of science, social studies, English, math, engineering and technology, health, and arts and music.

Suggested by Mr Hinsen: Join more than million students, teachers, parents and school leaders using our zero cost math learning platform for grades 1–8.
